Learn GTi
Learn GTi is the educational arm of Grimsby Town Football Club. We offer out – of – hours activities to the young people of Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
Oliver Cowling was appointed as centre manager, and hit the ground running. He quickly devised his programme for the ‘Playing for Success’ course (PfS), which was – and is – available to all schools in the area.
Since the successful pilot scheme in 2002, thousands of young people have enjoyed the activities at Blundell Park’s Study Support Centre. In that time, Oliver appointed Sam Smith as the deputy manager, and she took over the PfS programme, leaving the boss to do…whatever it is he does!
But Learn GTi encompasses so much more than that. We have an in – school incentive based programme called ‘On the Ball,’ where pupils can set their own goals and earn points for accomplishing them. The points can then be redeemed at the club shop for official GTFC merchandise.
Gillian Lodge heads up our Btec teaching, along with Matt Murphy. She teaches a cohort at Wintringham school, as well as the up and coming youth team at Blundell Park. We may also be expanding out to incorporate the teaching of other Football Clubs’ youth education – watch this space…
Recently, Learn GTi has opened two new satellite centres with the aid of the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. These centres, based at the Second Avenue Resource Centre and Grant Thorold Library, build on the success of the PfS project and focus directly on boosting SAT scores for pupils in year 6 and year 9. Don’t let that put you off, though – we only run activities that are fun and leave young people wanting to come back for more.

Today at the GTFC Study Support Centre we talked to some children from a school in New Waltham. We asked them a few questions about them and then they asked some about us. After this we designed a football kit for home and one for away. This was lots of fun.

I have been teaching ICT to the football apprentices at GTI Centre from 2005 on behalf of the Adult Community Learning Service. The GTI Centre staff have supported me throughout this time and continue to do so. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for your support.
